vicodin INFORMATION

IMPORTANT NOTE:

It can be hard some days to look at the entertainment news and not hear about some actor, actress, or musician being admitted to a rehab facility for drug or alcohol addiction and abuse. Sometimes, however, life imitates art, with films and television programs showing characters either suffering through or reveling in their addictions.Films like Traffic do their best to not glamorize addiction to drugs, showing the ramifications of those that succumb to addiction and the lengths they'll go to to get their fix, including engaging in illegal activities. That's not to say that there isn't a fiction to what's portrayed on film, only that the film tries not to glamorize what happens when the characters on film descend into addiction.Conversely, other films seemingly glamorize addiction, making it seem like a riotous good time. Movies and television shows like House and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas make the protagonists addicted to drugs while making them if not heroes, at least the characters that you care about.

They may not be the most likeable characters, but they're interesting, dynamic, and rarely seem to have any consequences for their actions.House in particular has only recently done a respectable job of having the character of Gregory House have to pay for his actions, most of which are driven by his constant pain and the vicodin addiction he's developed as a result. In the beginning of the show he took pills with impunity, was brash and irresponsible with his patients and superiors, and flaunted the law at almost every turn.

It's only in the last few seasons that there have been legal consequences for his addiction, including jail time and a stint at a rehab facility to help him overcome the mental problems that were arising out of regular abuse of vicodin and other drugs. Conversely, shows like Intervention show the gritty, real side of addiction, with not just the addict,

but their friends and families been shown so that the real depth of the effects of addiction are shown.Whenever anything like addiction is shown on television or film there will always be an element of fiction, even on "reality" shows, but the important part is for Hollywood to stop glamorizing addictions to drugs and alcohol the way they've stopped glamorizing characters that smoke, making them identifiable as villains or anti-heroes instead of romantic leads and all-around good guys. Characters that drink too much and inject or ingest controlled substances shouldn't be characters that others aspire to be.
